The Heart of the House in any restaurant is the kitchen. The reason we exist as a company is through the hard work and talent of our Heart of the House staff. Often unseen by the public, our Heart of the House chefs, cooks, and bakers each bring unique cooking experiences from their hometowns and from the kitchen tables (“La Cocina Mesa”) of their families. Our goal is to introduce you to their favorite dishes adapted from family recipes that they call comfort food.

We deliver authentic Mexican comfort food, made from scratch, using fresh, minimally processed ingredients in a relaxed, modern setting.
We are active members of the community supporting first and foremost our employees and their families.
We strive to use high quality, locally sourced ingredients whenever possible, support other small businesses, and to minimize our carbon footprint.
Our family of restaurants was started in 2010 by Grant and Jenny Gottesman with Tinleaf Fresh Kitchen. We have grown to include Beach Plum Kitchen, Black Rail Kitchen + Bar, and our latest addition: La Cocina Mesa.
All of our restaurants are located in Plaza Paseo Real Shopping Plaza and share the same patio, with the exception of Beach Plum Kitchen which is on the upper level of the plaza.
We wholeheartedly support local schools, non-profits, local musicians, and other small businesses. However, the largest portion of our contributions go to our employees and their families. We employ over 150 people across our family of restaurants and we don’t take for granted that each and every team member has a choice where to work and they have chosen us. By helping them with their goals and dreams, we help the community.
